We have spent the last three nights at Nenana RV Park in the tiny village of Nenana. Nenana had lost most of its will to survive, but thanks to a few hard-working individuals, the village is beginning to come back to life.
Nenana has a working train station and because of that, it is where the original Iditarod began. Of course that first time it was not a race for fun, but a race to save the people of the town of Nome, Alaska.
Dan and I have enjoyed walking around the village and talking to some of the people. The RV Park is very nice.
In the Spring The Nenana Ice Classic is held. A large wooden tripod of sorts is build on the frozen river and people pay a couple of dollars to guess the day the ice breaks and the tripod sinks. Last year a single winner won over $300,000. Dan bought a few chances.
